THE CHALLENGE.
Design and development of a signage system for the first section of the Chapultepec forest, to improve the space-person relationship by taking advantage of the forest’s diversity of activities and elements to make the environment a unique and unforgettable place, defining the signage according to its typology : orientative, identity, interpretative, etc. with an unique visual identity.
THE SOLUTION.
Design of a signage system applicable through an executive document. This project aims to design unique experiences for the user by taking Advantage of the cultural, natural and historical elements of the Chapultepec forest through simple, elegant and holistic signage.
We will do this by connecting the forest and the people, communicating in an organized and hierarchical way the diversity of existing elements, where the user can make decisions as his or her experience in the forest continues.
I defined a visual identity for the forest, and design of routes and experiences transmitted through the signage benefiting from the possibilities of the enviroment, defining three different experiences in the area, Paseo Aluxe, related to nature, Paseo Nahual, arqueology and history, and Paseo Axolotl, with all the cultural spaces and museums.
THE PROCESS.
I started this project by visiting the forest and experiencing all its elements and the current signage system. I discovered that there was a lack of communication of all the possibilities that this area can offer, by generating new propositions of differentiated experiences through signage design.
After researching all the elements of the area I defined the main objectives of my project:
-Transmit the richness of the Chapultepec forest and all the elements that compose it.
-Locate the user during his experience in the forest.
-Provide a learning experience about the pre-Hispanic culture, the forest and the city.
-Create a unique identity of the forest to generate an unforgettable experience.
-Allow the user to plan their stay in the forest.
After this I designed a new identity based on the brand colors of the city logo, and the signs that are needed, with organic forms suspended on light estructure, imitating trees, and allowing new compositions based on the needs of each sign.
The variaty of elements in the forest allows me to design three different experiences in the area, Paseo Aluxe, related to nature, Paseo Nahual, arqueology and history, and Paseo Axolotl, with all the cultural spaces and museums.
These are the identification signals and their location. The other signs includes an element with each tour colour to help the user locate himself.
